PgSQL Processes

Review active PostgreSQL queries and stop a connection when necessary.

What this page does

Use the connection list to find a long-running query or an application that is holding a database connection open. Check the database, user and query before stopping a connection.

How to use it

1. Find the database or PostgreSQL connection involved in the problem.
2. Read the query, running time and connection details.
3. Stop a connection only when necessary, then check the affected application.

Process scope and cancellation

Use the process list to inspect the database user, database, elapsed time, state, and query/activity that the current role may view. Refresh before selecting a process to terminate; IDs can disappear or be reused after an operation finishes.

Terminating database work can interrupt an application transaction. Investigate the blocking or expensive statement first, choose only the intended process, and verify the application afterwards. Root and account views must not be treated as interchangeable.
