FTP Server

Adjust the server settings used for FTP file transfers.

Where to find it: Sign in as root, open Server > Configuration, then choose FTP Server.

Available to: Root only.

Before you start

FTP Server can affect server-wide or multi-account behavior. Review the current state, expected service impact, and rollback path before applying a change.

How to use it

Review the FTP connection and transfer settings.
Change only the options required by your clients or service policy.
Save or apply as required, then test an FTP login and file transfer.

Available settings

These are the settings offered by the current SHM page. Defaults describe the baseline for an unset value; your saved configuration may differ. Review the effect and capacity of the server before changing a value.

Connections & Limits

Controls connection limits and how long idle sessions are allowed to stay connected.

Max clients (MaxClientsNumber) `max_clients_number`	int; range 1–5000 Baseline: `50`	Maximum number of simultaneous connected FTP clients (global limit). Keep close to what your server can handle. If you increase it, monitor load and memory.
Max clients per IP (MaxClientsPerIP) `max_clients_per_ip`	int; range 1–1000 Baseline: `8`	Limits how many concurrent connections a single IP address can open. Keep a reasonable limit to reduce abuse and accidental overload.
Max idle time (MaxIdleTime) `max_idle_time`	int; range 1–240 Baseline: `5`	Maximum idle time (minutes) before disconnecting an inactive client. Keep low to reduce idle sessions. Increase only if clients frequently pause transfers.

Passive Mode

Controls the port range used for passive (PASV) connections.

Passive port range start `passive_port_start`	port; range 1024–65535 Baseline: `49152`	First port in the passive mode range. Keep a broad range and ensure your firewall allows this range. Avoid using common service ports.
Passive port range end `passive_port_end`	port; range 1024–65535 Baseline: `65534`	Last port in the passive mode range. Must be greater than the start port. Keep within 1024–65535.

TLS Security

Controls whether encrypted (FTPS) sessions are allowed or required.

TLS mode (TLS) `tls_mode`	0, 1, 2, 3 Baseline: `1`	0 disables TLS. 1 allows both cleartext and TLS. 2 requires TLS for logins. 3 requires TLS for control and data connections. Use 1 for broad compatibility. Use 2/3 only if all clients support FTPS.

Compatibility & Logging

Controls client compatibility tweaks and logging verbosity.

Broken clients compatibility (BrokenClientsCompatibility) `broken_clients_compatibility`	yes / no Baseline: `yes`	Enables compatibility workarounds for older or non-standard FTP clients. Keep yes unless you have a specific reason to disable it.
Verbose logging (VerboseLog) `verbose_log`	off, commands, commands_responses Baseline: `commands_responses`	Controls how much detail is logged. commands_responses logs both client commands and server responses (more log volume). Use commands_responses for auditing/troubleshooting. Use commands or off if log volume is a concern.
