Firewall Rules

Review the rules that allow or block network traffic.

Where to find it: Sign in as root, open Server > Firewall, then choose Firewall Rules.

Available to: Root only.

Before you start

Security settings can also block legitimate visitors. Start with a narrow rule or monitoring mode where available, then check that normal access still works.

Why use it — and when not to

Use Firewall Rules to reduce a specific, evidenced risk. Avoid broad blocks, global disables, or permanent exceptions when a monitor mode or narrower rule can solve the same problem.

How to use it

  1. Find the rule for the connection or service you are checking.
  2. Review its address, port, direction and allow or block action.
  3. Apply an intended change and test that connection again.

Direction, source, and destination

A rule selects protocol and port, then allows everyone, blocks everyone, or allows only selected sources. Advanced rules separately handle outgoing and forwarding traffic and their permitted sources/destinations.

Do not assume that an incoming allow rule authorizes an outgoing or forwarded connection. Review protected management/service ports before saving, apply the intended change, and verify a fresh connection through the relevant direction.
