File Manager

File Manager is the browser workspace for account-owned files, offering common website maintenance without requiring full shell access.

Where to find it: Open the account and choose File Manager.

Available to: The account user for their own account, plus root or the owning reseller when working inside that account. The item may be hidden when its feature profile or required service is disabled.

What this page does

Use it to browse folders, upload and download files, create files or directories, edit supported text files, copy or move content, change supported permissions, create archives, extract validated archives, and use trash or recovery actions where shown.

Before you start

Confirm the selected account and current path. Back up a file before editing or replacing it, check available disk and inode quota before uploads or extraction, and never move an application secret into a public document root.

Path boundary

SHM resolves File Manager operations inside the authorized account home and applies account ownership rules. A path that looks absolute or contains traversal syntax does not grant access to another customer or the server.

Archives

Before extraction, review the archive contents and destination. SHM validates supported archive metadata and paths, but the operator still owns the decision to overwrite an existing application. Large archives can consume both disk space and inodes surprisingly quickly.

Ownership and permissions

Use the application's documented permission model and the narrowest writable scope. Making everything writable often solves the immediate error and schedules a more interesting security incident for later.

Editing a live site

Prefer a deployment or staging workflow for substantial changes. For a small emergency edit, save the original, change one file, validate syntax where appropriate, test the public request, and restore immediately if the result is wrong.

How to use it

  1. Confirm the account, directory, file, and available quota.
  2. Take a backup or download the original.
  3. Perform one supported file operation.
  4. Refresh the directory and confirm owner, size, time, and permissions.
  5. Test the affected website or application.

Result and next check

The requested file operation completes inside the account boundary and the affected application still works. Clean up obsolete archives or temporary uploads after verification so they do not become release artifacts, quota problems, or public downloads.
