Version and Updates
Version and Updates shows the installed SDM build, release channel, automatic-update preference, available update state, and current update job/log.
Where to find it: SDM root sidebar > Version.
Available to: root.
What this page does
Use this page to check rather than assume software state. Stable, release, beta, and alpha channels expose different risk levels; Check for updates is read-oriented, while Update now changes the node and can affect services.
Before you start
Verify backups, cluster/member health, maintenance timing, and release notes. Do not change channel simply to make an update appear. In multi-node deployments, use the approved sequencing plan.
Update controls
- Automatic updates: enables or disables the product's automatic update preference.
- Channel:
stable, release, beta, oralpha. - Check Update: refreshes availability without installing.
- Update Now: starts the guarded update job.
- Job / Log: shows queued, running, success, failure, and recent output.
The versioned /api/v1/ path in the public API is a compatibility namespace, not a product version badge.
Controls and fields
| Control, Field, Or Section | What It Does | What It Affects | Recommended Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check for Updates | Asks the update service whether a newer SDM version is available. | Updates the visible latest-version and availability state. | Run before planning maintenance. |
| Release channel | Shows and controls the update stream such as stable, release, beta, or alpha. | Determines which versions are offered. | Use stable for production; beta/alpha only in test environments. |
| Change channel | Opens the channel selection modal. | Prepares a release-channel change. | Change only when support or testing policy requires it. |
| Save Changes in channel modal | Stores the selected channel. | Changes future update checks and available versions. | Confirm the operational risk before leaving stable. |
| Automatic Updates | Enables or disables SDM product auto-updates. | Controls whether SDM can update itself automatically. | Use with a defined maintenance/update policy. |
| Update Now | Queues an SDM product update job. | May update the panel and temporarily restart services. | Use after reading the available version and during an approved maintenance window. |
| View Update Log | Opens the update process modal. | Shows live or recent update output. | Open before and during updates so failures are visible. |
| Refresh in Update Log | Reloads update output. | Does not start a new update. | Use while monitoring a running job or after reconnecting. |
| Update lock warning | Shows when updates are disabled by lock state. | Prevents update actions until the lock is cleared by authorized maintenance. | Do not bypass without understanding why updates were locked. |
Safety notes
- Use Stable for production. Alpha and beta channels are for controlled testing and can contain incomplete behavior.
How to use it
- Read current version, channel, auto-update, and update availability.
- Confirm backup and topology health.
- Select Check Update.
- If approved, start Update Now once and monitor job plus log.
- After completion, refresh version, service health, nodes, DNS, and logs.
Result and next check
The node reports the intended channel and current version, the update job completed successfully, and DNS/panel services remain healthy. A failed job remains an investigation until logs and service state explain it.
